Most of our carriers feature Internet backbone and intranet connections using self-healing Sonet technology. Some offer traffic relief pipes in each city to the other major private networks. A smaller number of carriers can route traffic directly to the requested network along the path with the fewest number of router hops and least latency, resulting in faster data transfer and minimal packet loss by avoiding the inefficient and unmanaged metropolitan access exchanges (MAEs) and network access points (NAPs). Avoiding these hubs enables information sent on the ATM backbone to travel 20 to 70 % faster!
